Kindle Fire Leather Cover by Marware, Black

Friday, November 25, 2011 | 0 comments

Kindle Fire Leather Cover by Marware, Black (Accessory) It feels nice to hold, and looks sorta slick. The little grippers feel solid, I'm hoping the Fire will fill out the bit of give my 3g has in the case though. Like was said, it's not exactly nice leather, in fact I'm not entirely convinced it's real leather, but the case does have a fairly dense padding feel to it like it would absorb a good amount in a drop. Also, all the corners are covered with the hardest padding, which is important. As for the folding display feature, it's less... what's the word... mechanical, I guess, than I would hope. It's more zen and the art of bending the cover. It's rather loosely held in that position relying on the friction between the bottom of the kindle and the padding. The case is fairly rigid, even in the crease so hopefully it'll loosen up in time, but this is a far-cry from the nifty iPad magnetic cover display. This is also far from cheap, it's actually fairly expensive, then again, all of your options are. I look at it this way, is it worth $15 more dollars than the overpriced and mostly featureless pouch, yeah, probably. I mean you need to protect your investment right? It's a judgement call, with a cover, without a cover, plain jane pouch or this folding leather cover, I feel like they all leave you in about the same point of value. I mean $45 would go a long way towards replacing the fire even if it means a reduced lifetime.

Update (after receiving the fire):
1. The Kindle Fire fits very snugly, much better than my 3G, so that makes me happy. But you don't need to wrench on it by any means to get it in the case, the screen isn't in any danger, at least not in mine.
2. The hand strap is convenient and comfortable
3. At first I thought it was weird that the strap favored left handed people, then I realized that if you spin the kindle 180 degrees, it does either, power to the ambidextrous.
4. The extra weight of the fire over my 3G also proves the stand system to be better than I originally suspected. I shook the table a bit to see if the fire would slide or fall while upright, but it held in place more than well enough for any bumps or shakes a table might get under normal conditions.
5. Don't get me wrong, it's still an expensive case, but I at least feel somewhat better about it. In the absence of other alternatives, it's probably better than nothing. Ultimately, it feels protected.
6. I'd upgrade it to 3.5 STARS but I still hesitate to give it four because of the price.

Anti-glare protection
Anti-glare protection
Applicator for removing bubbles
Applicator for removing bubbles

Special Note

Anti-glare screen protectors can produce a slight blurring effect in certain lighting conditions. This occurs with all anti-glare screen protector brands. This effect is caused by the frosted texture of the anti-glare material, the same texturing that reduces reflective glare. The Marware Anti-Glare Screen Protector is designed for the user who wants scratch protection and to eliminate the glare from their display in bright situations/environments. A clear version is also available.

Product Tips

  • The screen protector is sandwiched between two pieces of clear plastic to keep it clean - referenced by Tab 1 (covering adhesive side) and Tab 2 (covering the top side).
  • You may remove the plastic that protects the adhesive side (Tab 1) either all at once or while you're lowering the screen protector onto the device - but be aware that the sooner you remove it the more likely you are to have dust or particles on the adhesive, which may show through once you install the protector.
  • Be sure to align the screen protector exactly with the Kindle Fire display, starting from one end of the device and slowly lowering and applying it to the screen, little by little.
  • Avoid placing it down on the device all at once - this increases the likelihood that it won't align or that you'll get air or dust bubbles.
  • The slower you go, the better your alignment will be - time, concentration, and a steady hand are your friends in this process.
  • Avoid touching anything but the sides or top of the protector during installation - touching the underside (where the adhesive is) may leave dirt, oils, or smudges that won't be possible to remove later.
  • If you encounter air bubbles after you've aligned the protector, work them out slowly towards the outside of the film with the applicator (included) - it may take several attempts to complete.
  • Any dust or dirt particles trapped under the film may be difficult or impossible to remove once installed.

Product Description

The Marware Kindle Fire Anti-Glare Screen Protector is a clear film that defends your Kindle screen against damage from scratches. Precisely cut to cover the entire display, it adheres securely to the screen and shields it from dangers like dirt, dust, foreign objects or dirty fingers. Plus, it’s durable, removable, washable, scratch resistant and reusable! As an added bonus, Marware includes a microfiber cleaning cloth, an extra screen protector (just in case) and easy installation alignment tabs on the film. Now you can enjoy the benefits of crystal clear, anti-glare screen protection for your new Kindle Fire for years to come with the Marware Anti-Glare Screen Protector.

Amazon Kindle US Power Adapter (Kindle, Kindle Touch, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle DX)

Product Features

  • The United States Kindle power adapter
  • Approved charger for Kindle, Kindle Touch, Kindle Keyboard, and Kindle DX
  • Fully charges Kindle, Kindle Touch, Kindle Keyboard, or Kindle DX in 4 hours or less
  • See Kindle User's Guide for instructions and important safety information
amazon Kindle US Power Adapter (Kindle, Kindle Touch, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle DX) (Accessory) This exact power adapter comes standard with what Amazon calls now the 'Kindle Keyboard' models (Kindle 3) but NOT with the Kindle Touch and the least expensive model ($79 no touch) now known as plain 'Kindle'. It can be used just about anywhere in the world (100-240V) for as long as you have the proper plug adapter.

To charge a Kindle you will need a generic USB Type A/Micro B cable and one is supplied with every Kindle purchased and you can do it in several different ways:

- Off a laptop or PC through one of their 'powered' USB ports (you will need a laptop or a PC)
- With this adapter which comes with all Kindle 3s or can be purchased separately (you will need the Amazon-supplied or any generic USB cable)
- With a third-party, branded or generic USB charger (search Amazon for either 'kindle charger' or 'usb charger')

This specific charger works for all 3d and 4th generation Kindles and is also great for charging lots of other gadgets that get charged through an USB port. I'm using it to charge my Blackberry Torch, a couple of other phones and the kids charge their MP3 players. And the reverse is also true: most other USB chargers will work with your Kindle. One good example is the Blackberry's.

Amazon's charger may cost a couple of dollars more than a generic but it comes with Amazon's logo and some peace of mind. For anyone going 'generic', here are the Amazon adapter's specs:

INPUT (AC): 100-240V, 50/60Hz
OUTPUT (DC): 4.9V, 0.85A

Prices fluctuate so I'm not going to discuss 'price' but it's always a good idea to search Amazon for alternatives before placing an order.

Enhanced Reading

Lose Yourself in Your Reading

The most elegant feature of a physical book is that it disappears while you're reading. Immersed in the author's world and ideas, you don't notice a book's glue, the stitching, or ink. Our top design objective was to make Kindle disappear—just like a physical book—so you can get lost in your reading, not the technology.

Paper-Like Screen with E Ink Pearl Display for 50% Improved Contrast

Utilizing the latest generation E Ink Pearl technology, Kindle DX provides a crisp black-and-white 9.7-inch diagonal screen with the same appearance and readability of printed paper. Sharp and natural with no glare or backlight, reading on Kindle DX is nothing like reading from a computer screen. Those who see it for the first time always do a double-take. The screen works using ink, just like books and newspapers, but displays the ink particles electronically. And unlike a laptop or smart phone, Kindle DX never gets warm so you can comfortably read as long as you like.

Read in Sunlight With No Glare

Kindle DX's screen reflects light like ordinary paper and uses no backlighting, eliminating the glare associated with other electronic displays. As a result, Kindle DX can be read as easily in bright sunlight as in your living room. In addition, the improved contrast makes it easier to read in low light conditions.

Adjustable Text Size

Kindle DX has eight adjustable font sizes to suit your reading preference. You can increase the text size of your favorite book or periodical with the push of a button. If your eyes tire, simply increase the font size and continue reading comfortably. Now every book in your library can be large print.

Sharp Display of Images and Photos

Kindle DX's high-resolution and high-contrast screen boasts 16 shades of gray and 50% improved contrast, for the sharpest text and images.

Full Image Zoom

Whether you prefer reading in portrait or landscape mode, images and photos display crisply on Kindle DX and can be zoomed to the full size of the 9.7" screen.

Enhanced Newspaper Reading Experience

With Kindle DX's large display, reading newspapers is more enjoyable than ever. The 5-way controller lets you quickly flip between articles, making it fast and easy to browse and read the morning paper. Want to remember the article you just read? Clip and save entire articles for later reading with a single click.

Bookmarks and Annotations

By using the QWERTY keyboard, you can add annotations to text, just like you might write in the margins of a book. And because it is digital, you can edit, delete, and export your notes. Using the 5-way controller, you can highlight and clip key passages and bookmark pages for future use. You'll never need to bookmark your last place in the book, because Kindle DX remembers for you and always opens to the last page you read.

Personal Document Service Via Whispernet

Kindle DX makes it easy to take your personal documents with you, eliminating the need to print. Each Kindle has a unique and customizable e-mail address. You can set your unique email address on your Manage Your Kindle page. This allows you and your approved contacts to send Word, PDF documents, and pictures to your Kindle via Whispernet for a small fee—see details. Kindle supports wireless delivery of unprotected Microsoft Word (DOC, DOCX), PDF, HTML, TXT, RTF, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, PRC and MOBI files. Some complex PDF and DOCX files might not format correctly on your Kindle.

You can transfer personal documents to your Kindle via USB for free at any time. Learn more

Built-in Dictionary With Instant Lookup

Never get caught without a dictionary. Kindle DX includes The New Oxford American Dictionary with over 250,000 entries and definitions, so you can seamlessly look up the definitions of words without interrupting your reading. Come across a word you don't know? Simply move the cursor to it and the definition will automatically display at the bottom of the screen. Never fear a sesquipedalian word again--simply look it up and keep reading.

Wireless Access to Wikipedia

Kindle DX also includes free built-in access to the world's most exhaustive and up-to-date encyclopedia--Wikipedia.org. With Kindle DX in hand, looking up people, places, events and more has never been easier. It gives whole new meaning to the phrase walking encyclopedia.

Detailed Features Kindle Keyboard 3G, Free 3G + Wi-Fi, 6" E Ink Display

Elegant, Easy-to-use E-reader
Lose Yourself in Your Reading The most elegant feature of a physical book is that it disappears while you're reading. Immersed in the author's world and ideas, you don't notice a book's glue, the stitching, or ink. Our top design objective is to make Kindle Keyboard 3G disappear — just like a physical book — so you can get lost in your reading, not the technology. Ergonomic Design Kindle Keyboard 3G is easy to hold and read. We designed our e-reader with long-form reading in mind. When reading for long periods of time, people naturally shift positions and often like to read with one hand. Kindle Keyboard 3G’s page-turning buttons are located on both sides, allowing you to read and turn pages from any position. Simple Controls Kindle Keyboard 3G has an easy-to-use 5-way controller for on-screen navigation for highlighting text or looking up words. For searching and note-taking, Kindle Keyboard features a physical keyboard. Never Gets Hot Unlike a laptop, Kindle Keyboard 3G never gets hot so you can read comfortably as long as you like.
Wireless Capability
Easiest to Use, Free 3G Wireless Kindle Keyboard 3G offers the convenience of no wireless setup--you are ready to shop, download, and read right out of the box. Kindle Keyboard 3G uses the same wireless signals as cell phones, so you don't need to worry about Wi-Fi connections, passwords or internet charges. Unlike cell phones, with Kindle Keyboard 3G there are no monthly fees or commitments — Amazon pays for Kindle Keyboard 3G's wireless connectivity. Your Kindle Keyboard 3G may use wireless connectivity to make other services available, such as wireless delivery of personal documents (see below), which may require an additional charge. For more information, see Wireless Terms and Conditions. With wireless coverage in over 100 countries and territories, Kindle Keyboard 3G lets you download books anytime, anywhere, whether you're relaxing on a beach, halfway through a hike, or waiting on the tarmac. Check 3G coverage area For U.S. customers traveling abroad, additional charges apply for wireless delivery of periodical subscriptions. For details, click here. To avoid any charges, you can always download items via your computer and transfer them to your Kindle using USB or a Wi-Fi connection. Built-in Wi-Fi Kindle Keyboard 3G also comes with built-in Wi-Fi so you can search, shop and have books wirelessly delivered to your device without synching to a computer. Kindle Keyboard 3G automatically detects nearby Wi-Fi networks wherever you are, making it easy to connect at school, home, or your favorite cafĂ©. Free Access at AT&T Hotspots Enjoy free Wi-Fi access at AT&T hotspots across the U.S. for shopping and downloading Kindle content — no AT&T registration, sign-in, or password required.
E Ink 101
Latest Generation E Ink Kindle Keyboard 3G uses E Ink Pearl – the latest generation of E Ink technology available – to deliver clear, crisp text you can read without eye strain. How Electronic Ink Works Electronic ink uses actual ink particles to create crisp, print-like text similar to what you see in a physical book. Kindle Keyboard uses proprietary, hand-built fonts to take advantage of the special characteristics of the ink to make letters appear clear and sharp. Reads Like Real Paper, Even in Bright Sunlight Because Kindle Keyboard 3G's electronic display uses E Ink, it looks and reads like real paper. Kindle Keyboard 3G’s screen reflects light like ordinary paper and uses no backlighting, so you can read as easily in bright sunlight as in your living room.
Reading on Kindle

Adjustable Text Sizes, Font Choices Kindle Keyboard 3G has eight adjustable font sizes to suit your reading preference. You can increase the text size of your favorite book or periodical with the push of a button. If your eyes tire, simply increase the font size and continue reading comfortably. Kindle Keyboard also has three font styles to choose from – all optimized and hand-tuned to provide the best reading experience. Custom Fonts Kindle Keyboard 3G uses hand-built, custom fonts and font-hinting to make words and letters more crisp, clear, and natural-looking. Font hints are instructions, written as code, that control points on a font character's line, improving legibility at small font sizes where few pixels are available. Hinting is a mix of aesthetic judgments and complicated technical strategies. We've designed our proprietary font-hinting to optimize specifically for the special characteristics of electronic ink. Fast Page Turns Kindle Keyboard 3G has fast page turns. We’ve done this by fine-tuning Kindle Keyboard’s proprietary waveform, the series of electronic pulses that move black and white electronic ink particles to achieve an optimal display of images and text. Full Image Zoom Images and photos display crisply on Kindle and can be zoomed to the full size of the screen. Support for Non-Latin Characters Kindle Keyboard 3G supports the display of non-Latin characters, so you can read books and documents in the translation that’s right for you. Kindle Keyboard 3G displays Cyrillic (such as Russian), Japanese, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), and Korean characters, in addition to Latin and Greek scripts. Rotate Between Portrait and Landscape Mode Manually rotate the display from portrait to landscape to view maps, graphs, tables and Web pages. Real Page Numbers Easily reference and cite passages or read alongside others in a book club or class with real page numbers. Using the computing fabric of Amazon Web Services, we’ve created algorithms that match specific text in a Kindle book to the corresponding text in a print book, to identify the correct, “real” page number to display. Real page numbers are available on tens of thousands of our most popular Kindle books, including the top 100 bestselling books in the Kindle Store that have matching print editions. Page numbers are displayed when you push the menu button. Carry and Read Your Personal Documents Kindle Keyboard 3G makes it easy to take your personal documents with you, eliminating the need to print. You and your approved contacts can e-mail documents – including Word, PDF and more - directly to your Kindle Keyboard 3G and read them in Kindle format. Delivery via Wi-Fi is free; there is a small fee for delivery via 3G - see details. Your personal documents will be stored in your Kindle library on Amazon and ready to download conveniently anywhere at any time. You can add notes, highlights and bookmarks, which are automatically synchronized across devices along with the last page you read using our Whispersync technology. You can read your PDFs in their native format and convert them to the Kindle format so that it reflows like a regular Kindle book. Learn more.
Dictionary and Search
Built-In Dictionary with Instant Lookup Come across a word you don’t know? Kindle Keyboard 3G includes The New Oxford American Dictionary with over 250,000 entries and definitions for free. Kindle Keyboard lets you instantly lookup the definition without ever leaving the book – simply move the cursor to the word and the definition will automatically display at the bottom of the screen. Search Wikipedia and the Web Kindle Keyboard 3G makes it easy to find what you’re looking for. Just enter a word or phrase and Kindle will search every instance across your Kindle library, in the Kindle Store, on Wikipedia, or the Web using Google search.
Notes and Sharing
Bookmarks and Annotations By using the QWERTY keyboard, you can add annotations to text, just like you might write in the margins of a book. And because it is digital, you can edit, delete, and export your notes. You can highlight and clip key passages and bookmark pages for future use. You'll never need to bookmark your last place in the book, because Kindle remembers for you and always opens to the last page you read. Popular Highlights See what millions of Kindle readers think are the most interesting passages in your books. If several other readers have highlighted a particular passage, then that passage will be highlighted in your book along with the total number of people who have highlighted it. Learn more Share Meaningful Passages Share your passion for books and reading with friends, family, and other readers around the world by posting meaningful passages to social networks like Facebook and Twitter directly from Kindle Keyboard 3G, without leaving the page. Want to post or tweet about a great new novel or newspaper article? When you highlight a passage or create a note in your book or periodical, you can easily share it with your social network. Help your network of family and friends discover new authors and books. Public Notes Share your notes and see what others are saying about Kindle books. Any Kindle user – including authors, book reviewers, professors and passionate readers everywhere – can opt-in to share their thoughts on book passages and ideas with friends, family members, colleagues, and the greater Kindle community.
